What can a Christian expect regarding financial prosperity?

Discussion question for July 11, 2009

There are plenty of traditions and customs regarding financial prosperity and the Christian walk.  What did you believe about prosperity as you grew up?  What core values have you developed regarding money and material possessions?  How are you demonstrating those values to others?  If we claim the promise that anything we ask according to His will, we know we will have it, then how can we know His will about our financial condition?

What is the role of evangelism?

Discussion question for July 10, 2009.

Since we have discussed the essentials of salvation, and agreed that it is the work of Grace by which people are saved, what should be our attitude toward evangelism?  What responsibility do we have in saving the lost?  How should we go about presenting the gospel to others?  Can we screw up the offer in a way that would lead someone to destruction?  Is there an appropriate amount of effort and energy that we should put into the “Great Commission”?  Which of the “essentials” should we employ?

How does your prayer life help you discover your true identity?

The way we pray tells a lot about who we are.  If we pray in the Spirit and listen to our prayers we discover things about what we believe.  How does this help us interrogate our beliefs?  What types of prayer are most effective in revealing our character?  Why does God answer some prayers quickly, and others not?  What does that tell us about ourselves and our relationship with Him?

How should we pray?

Discussion question for June 19, 2009

Does it matter if we pray aloud, speaking things into existence?  Are we to pray silently when we are in our “prayer closet”?  Does it make a difference in general, or are there specific situations in which one type of prayer is called for over another?  What are the kinds of prayer we should use?

What power do words have in our spiritual life?

Discussion question for May 29, 2009

Last week we talked about the power of words in communication.  This week we look at the power of words for life or death, blessing or cursing, from a spiritual point of view.  How are we affected by the power of The Word (the Bible)?  How can our prayers be made more effective through the careful use of our words?  Is it important to guard your words from a spiritual point of view, specific to communicating with God, or unintentionally communicating with demons?  All power comes from God, so how do we most effectively tap into that power through our words?

How do you know you hear from God?

Discussion question for April 24, 2009

Can people really expect to hear from God today?  If they can expect to hear Him, how can they be certain about what He says?  When someone really wants to know the will of God for their life, and need answers for decisions that need to be made, they want to know with certainty how God is directing them.
