How do you delight in the Lord?

Psalm 37:4 says “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” What do you expect from this promise? How do you delight? What activities or attitudes do you use? How has your delight in the Lord changed you in the past? Another promise is “Come to Me … and I will give you rest.” How do you come to Him, and how often? What has that rest been like for you when you have come? What daily rhythms or patterns help you delight and come?

What is love?

We discussed and shared about the love of God in our discussions based on 1 John 4.  How do you understand, and maybe describe, the love of God? What has been your experiences with His love? How does God deal with unrequited love? What explanation have you accepted about God’s nature based on the flood, the “devoted to destruction” elements of the Promised Land, or His judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah? How do you reflect the nature of God when your expression of love is not returned? What experiences have given you a deeper understanding of love, at any level?

How do you achieve breakthrough?

Discussion question for March 15, 2024.

Sometimes growth and maturity are a steady climb, and at other times there may seem to be slow times followed by quantum leaps forward.  How do you describe your growth curve to date? When have you experienced a breakthrough that opened up significantly new areas to you? What have you done in the past to encourage breakthrough? How have you seen growth spurts get initiated in others? What patterns do you recognize regarding God’s best plan for maturity? What would you say to a friend who would love to see a radical change?

Hebrews 6:1 tells us to “go on to maturity” and Paul exhorts us to move toward goal. What are you being grown into, and what is your purpose or calling?  How have you marked progress toward this goal in the past? What is God inviting you to gain in preparation for the future? How do you know the next step, each time, from the Lord? What testimonies can you share about your journey toward maturity in Christ? What have others recognized in you? How can you encourage others who are younger in their journey to go on to maturity?

What is truth?

Soul-driven living comes from being guided by my mind, will, and emotions. How do you define wisdom versus knowledge?  What guides you into truth compared to opinion?  How has God revealed Himself to you in the past? What is the most likely way you will receive truth from the Spirit today? How can people have such different belief systems and “facts”?  What reconciles these opinions in a meaningful way? What would it take for Jesus to help you lose your mind?

How do you hold your peace?

Philippians 4:7 says the peace of God will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.  When have you felt perfect peace? What symptoms go along with your experience of that peace?  How do you describe peace to someone with limited experience in it?  What causes you to lose your peace?  What are your leading indicators that peace is slipping away? How do you return to peace?  What must you avoid, or what must you do, to hold your peace?  How do you share your peace with others?
